Location

The county of Trofa was created by Law 83/98 of 14 December, and integrated, for statistical purposes, in the NUT III -. Ave, also belonging to the Association of Municipalities of the Ave Valley that beyond this county, integrates Fafe, Guimarães, Póvoa de Lanhoso, Santo Tirso, Vieira do Minho, Vila Nova de Famalicão and Vizela.

Located in the region of Entre-Douro-e-Minho in the north end of the district of Porto, the municipality of Maia delimits the south and west with the municipalities of Maia and Vila do Conde, belonging to the Porto Metropolitan Area (PMA), and north and east with the municipalities of Vila Nova de Famalicão and Santo Tirso, which integrate the cluster Ave Valley.
